ALA Features Interview with Jen Marr and Deb Knupp

March 14th, 2022 — Deb Knupp, Managing Director of GrowthPlay, interviewed Jen Marr, CEO & Founder of Inspiring Comfort and author of Showing Up, for an article published Friday in The Magazine of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA).

The article, “The Shadow Pandemic: How Firm Staff Can Show Up for Struggling Employees,” emphasizes the impact of trauma, particularly for legal organizations, amidst a two-year pandemic, the Great Resignation, and a mental health epidemic. The only true way out is through showing up with tangible, concrete skills and actions.

In the interview, Jen Marr highlights how ten years of observing, assessing and researching human care led her to identify the devastating consequences of the empathy-action gap, what we call the Awkward Zone™ : 80% of people self-report that they can see when someone is struggling, yet less than 20% feel equipped to know what to say and do to show care to those in need.

According to Knupp, breaking through barriers and showing up is deeply necessary in legal organizations: “The world needs lawyers and the professional staff to be at their best so that clients and their extended networks are more positively impacted. When we know how to show up, we can help ourselves and others struggle less, heal faster and activate positive mindsets and behaviors.“
