Press Release: Introducing Comfort U

Tuesday, November 9 (Great Falls, VA) — Inspiring Comfort, the pioneer in establishing comfort as a teachable skill, launches Comfort U: Comfort Skills Programming for college campuses.

Comfort U has been launched at several universities, including Valparaiso University and College of the Holy Cross. The universities praised Inspiring Comfort’s ability to provide concrete, science-based tools and strategies for navigating the Awkward Zone: the feeling of not knowing what to do or say when someone is struggling.

The programming emerged out of the observation that the need for students, peers, faculty, and staff to know how to care for each other has never been greater; over 80% of people Inspiring Comfort has worked with have said they don’t feel equipped to know what to say and do to someone who is struggling.

It is critical that students have a full circle of care which includes parents, teachers/staff, and each other. And yet, they feel alone and unseen in their struggles because they are unsure of how to support each other. Comfort U helps students, peers, faculty and staff, and even parents and caregivers be a resource to each other, filling that crucial gap in their support system and strengthening the campus community as a whole.

Inspiring Comfort’s Student Programming includes four offerings: Care & Comfort 101, its signature training where students learn to break through their own personal Awkward Zone™ with new tools and strategies to foster social connectedness in their relationships both on and off campus; Peer Leader Training 201, a deeper orientation into the skill of comfort for RA’s, OL’s, and other Peer Leaders; Peer Leader Certification Training 301, a certification program for Peer Leaders to be able to facilitate Comfort Skills Training; and Team Bonding Training 102, a team bonding workshop for sports teams, arts and performance groups, and clubs.

Its Faculty and Staff Programming includes Keynotes, Lunch and Learns, and 1/2 day workshops. Faculty and staff will break through their own “Awkward Zones” and will be equipped to recognize and support both each other and those in their care. Our Parent/Caregiver webinars help parents/caregivers understand the role they play between being the parent and being a support to their children. Parents/caregivers will gain insight into how best to provide care, comfort, and connection to students during times of change.

It is our goal to create a culture of care on college campuses. To learn more about Comfort U and Inspiring Comfort programming, email info@inspiringcomfort.com.
